Although I don't care for the way this was handled by Dead Oceans, I still encourage all y'all to go out and buy this album for the artists' sake. It's quickly becoming one of my favorites.

Christmas Megapost!
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but our christmas present to you has been delayed a bit. Last night my mom fell and broke her ankle & Kate and I haven't quite had the time to get everything uploaded that we need to in order to post the links to our favorite albums.
However, tomorrow night, I'm hoping to have every album that we plan to uploaded done.
It's sort of like your gift is still in the mail, you know?
However, at least we can tell you what's coming!

To create our "Top 25 of 2008", both Henry and I made a list of our own top 25 first. 1st place received 25 points, 2nd - 24, 3rd - 23, and so on. We put our lists together, adding up the points each received to get our overall top 25. (There were some ties). I suppose it was stupid on my part to post anything released on a Major.
On a related note, any artist, label, hell, even music fan, can request ANY download content removed. I, in no way, am unwilling to comply to requests for removal. My goal for this blog is not to help people steal music, it's instead to share music. The same way people take their friends to different restaurants you know? You take them there so that if they like it, they'll start going there and maybe take some friends of their own. I try the hardest any broke college student can to support artists and pay legitimately for music, but I also understand where musicians are coming from.
It's okay though, TYT will live on as long as we aren't shut down completely by blogger.
And even though I don't necessarily like how this situation was handled, a label's action shouldn't reflect an artist's view. I say, if you are able, go out and buy the new Erykah Badu. It's such a sick record. The song Soldier is one of the best tracks I've heard this year.
But most importantly support all of your favorite artists. I try to attend a concert or two a month and I try to buy around two or three albums every month too. Lastly, I just wanna say that Blogger was also really cool with how they handled this and I greatly appreciate their hosting. Without it we'd be nothing!

I believe in you
Bon Iver covering Talk Talk's I Believe in You from the Spirit of Eden LP.
It's nearing the end of the year, and as always, every person on the internet who thinks their opinion matters is going about making their top ten lists for 2008. However, we here at TYT aren't just going to tell you about who came out the strongest this year, we're going to share with you the strongest (In our opinions.) I've already got my top 25 list, and Kate's still working on hers, but once we get all the votes calculated, we will start on the christmas megapost of albums. We will also have a top five list of EPs, I believe, that I'll try to get up as a christmas eve present or something. We'll see.
I hate to bore y'all with news posts and all, but I hope this is exciting for a change. I added links to both Kate and I's facebooks to the bottom of the page, in case you want to contact either of us. I also encourage you to add either of us as friends via last.fm if ya like what we listen to. If you have anything you want to hear or have anything to say to us, you can either leave a comment, comment in the comment box, or contact me by email.
On an unrelated note, if anyone out there has a blog they'd like posted in a new bloglinks section on here, feel free to leave a comment. I try to keep a good list of links on here so that this can sort of be a blog hub, for people who don't want 500 bookmarks. It doesn't necessarily have to be a music blog, but it should preferably be an active blog.
I'm off to study for finals week. Hope you all are enjoying the holiday season (only 11 days until christmas! & eight days until hanukkah! & 12 days until kwanzaa!)

All albums, and I plan on uploading Spirit of Eden eventually, it's my favorite of their records, though very heavily contested with this one as far as being the 'best.'
I know I say to try out most everything on here, but I personally dare you to take a listen to this album and see what happens. Upon only one listening of this album, I went out and bought it the next day. Then I went out and bought Spirit of Eden. I can't recommend this band enough. Mark Hollis was the future of music, but for some reason he was not embraced.

While MPP refuses to leak, you can take a listen to a live preview thanks to the folks over at onethirtybpm.com
And if that isn't enough, check out the MPP Leak feed.
But most importantly, stare at that image for a few minutes!
What an album cover eh?
Ages ago on the internet, I found the same design yet with green and yellow colors, and saved it, knowing, one day, that jpg would grow up to be an album cover.
P.S. use your scroll bar to go up and down and watch the little oval things as it moves.

Seemingly somewhat too completely appropriate, I figured I'd post this.
However, now with thanksgiving down, that means I've not even got a month to make my christmas playlist. Once I get it put together all nice, I'll be sure to post it, but until then, this is going to have to do it for you.
One of my favorite bootlegs of theirs, I think it might be the only time I've ever heard Come Closer played live.
Hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving!

A reminder to all the folks in the Lexington/Louisville area,
Tomorrow night, y'all gotta come to see the Englishman, the Swells, and most importantly, Will Oldham and the Picket Line.
Tickets are on sale at CD Central for 12$, I just got mine and Kate's, so I assume they are still selling them, though I've been told they might sell out by the end of the day.
Anyway, for the rest of you non-Kantucks, I'm working on a batch of uploads for tonight.
These include, but are not limited to:
Calexico- Garden Ruin (and a re-up of Carried to Dust)
something from the Cap'n Jazz/Joan of Arc scene. (I'm thinking American Football or Owls, but I haven't quite decided yet)
MAYBE the new Ludacris album
and if Merriweather Post Pavillion leaks, I'll post it.
Until it does though, the thread over at ateaseweb will suffice.

Your vote counts!
Hope y'all went out to vote today.
Although the night is young, it seems like Obama is indeed going to capture the presidency, giving hope to all us Americans who don't make 200k+ a year.
I'm gonna try to have this program I'm working on for my class done by tomorrow [a day or two overdue :( ] and I think I'm gonna make a blog post tomorrow with anywhere from two to four albums.
In the meantime, I'd like to take a second to encourage you all to think about music on the radio. Don't get me wrong on this, because I worked a 3-6 A.M. shift for a college radio station this past summer, and I know a thing or two about the whole idea of 'alternative' music, but as of lately, I'm absolutely in love with most of what I hear on the radio.
Lil' Wayne is truly the beatles/michael jackson/elvis/whomever of our age you know? Not that I like to compare anyone to anyone, but he's truly the best rapper alive, and if you do not own it, please go out and buy tha Carter III.
The new T.I. is wonderful as well, and that new song "Chopped and Screwed" by T-Pain and Ludacris has got to be one of the top five songs of this year.
I encourage all of you to take a few moments to set aside any prejudices and break down any barriers you have keeping you from listening to this incredible music.
I consider myself mostly a fan of country music, but truly, most of my favorite music could never be played in the grand ole opry, and that's something I'm glad about.

No albumz
Greetings readers,
Just wanted to say a few things:
First,
If you're a fan of mashup at all, from DangerMouse to Girl Talk, ANYTHING, you would probably appreciate The Hood Internet's Mixtape Three, which was just released. It's really good.
Second,
If you're as big of a fan of MMJ as I am, then you're probably familiar with that youtube video of Jim playing I will Be There When You Die in like, a parking garage? That's actually from a short documentary kind of thing, and thanks to the Steam Engine, you can now download the whole thing and watch it!
Third,
If yer from the Lexington area, you should check out the Elephant Six surprise show tomorrow night. Are you really gonna pass up the chance of seeing Jeff Mangum? Didn't think so.
See ya there.
[EDIT]:
Also, check out Grooveshark, which may be my new favorite website on the internet.

These Taming Blues
Hey y'all, I don't mean to bum any of you fans of modern music out too much, but seeing as that a lot of current record labels have plenty problems with music piracy (naturally so, the economy is dead and the music industry is not the place to be) I think (for a little while at least) I'll start providing music downloads that are either rare or have no chance at pissing on anyone's hair or anything.
However I'd like to say I have a lot of respect for labels who are pleasant about asking for moosic removed. I'd also like to say that I really count on you all (who download from this blog) to go out and purchase physical copies of the albums you download. Without that essential step, the music you've came to know and love is seriously fucked.
Not to mention that there's nothing better than opening the window, grabbing your favorite vice, and letting the needle drop. Even if your favorite vice is your record collection.

When beads spell power leaf
Hey y'all, sorry about the lack of posts lately. Classes are slowly eating up my time (speaking of which, if anyone is any good with C++, I'd LOVE some help :P) and Kate's pretty busy with applying to colleges and all. This weekend I'll be sure to post an album or two, after I get back from the glory of the Spoonbread Festival in Berea.
P.S. if you live near central Ky, come out and support Berea in full force!

Howdy
Hey y'all. Still completely and totally unable to upload albums from my current location, so I'll still have to go through a somewhat complex system of sending albums to be uploaded to Kate for uploading. This next week or so should see the uploads of these albums, as long as everything turns out right:
Carissa's Weird- You Should Be At Home Here
Ghosts & Vodka- Addicts and Drunks
Santo & Jonny- S/T
Bound Stems- the Family Afloat
Motorpsycho- It's A Love Cult
Brightblack Morning Light- Motion To Rejoin
P.S. In the near future, expect changes from this sort of folk/country/rock/americana thing to things unexpected. Don't be surprised to see M. Ravel, Moondog, Django, Kool, Ibrahim, Ravi, J Dilla, Jim O Rourke, Buell Kazee, Lee Perry, Black Flag, Lil' Wayne, Reich, Talk Talk, or even Justin Timberlake. Life is too short to choose one genre of music per era of your life. The artifice of 'maistream' 'alternative' and 'cool' are what keeps the greatest of musics from rising above.
