Note to readers:

Thank y'all for visiting, although our blog is now discontinued, it's not too far fetched to expect another blog from either Kate or I in the next year or two. Until then, happy downloading!

If you have any questions or if there's an album on here that you can't find anywhere else and you've GOT to have it, send me an email at Kingsofsquidma@Gmail.com

Saturday, October 10, 2009

We're too busy to find things to post on here on a regular basis, but we have a lot of music we'd like to share.

If you are in need of something drop us a message, email, comment, shout or something to let us know. We'll get it to you.

Here's my formspring, I recommend sending requests there because it's easier to organize them.

Love you all!

--Kate

EDIT: It would be helpful if you put the artist and the album name in your request. If your request isn't uploaded, it's because a) your submission is too broad or b) what you requested does not exist.

Long time, no posts

However, we have excuses -- and promises!

Lack of internet is our main excuse. I just don't have the speed to upload an album, and Henry recently moved to a new house. Good news though! Henry's house should have internet in a few weeks, and I'm moving on campus this Friday!

In other good news, Henry and I have our own show on WRFL (the local radio station in Lexington, KY) and you can stream us live from the internet! Our show is Monday mornings 3-6am. Not an ideal time slot, but a slot nonetheless.

I promise to start uploading at the end of this month. Send your requests our way.

Bad Bloggers

As you can see Henry and I have not posted much of anything lately or followed through with what we've said we would do. However, now that I have graduated, gotten a new computer, been to Bonnaroo, and gotten my first sunburn of the summer, I think I can devote more time to sharing music with you all. (And force Henry to post stuff every once in a while, too).

Yes, you will receive what Henry promised in the last post, and yes, more will come!

Thanks for being patient with us.

Blues By Five

I'm sorry to announce that all albums associated with Ramseur Records have been requested removed by both the label as well as a concerned citizen who I'm not exactly sure contacted Ramseur, but I'm assuming did.

I want to be straight with you all, it takes one very simple email addressed to my inbox to remove any album. I don't need you to tell me why, just ask me and it's gone. I love the Avett Brothers, and as it looks right now, I'll be seeing them four or five times this summer. Please, go out and support these bands, buy their albums, buy their shirts, buy tickets to their concerts, buy them drinks, I'm trying to say I obviously know what I'm doing isn't on the straight and narrow, but I put this stuff up because I want more people to come to shows of bands that deserve more fans.

It's probably not the right way to go about it, but that's what this is, a music blog.

You can take it or you can leave it.

P.S. I am in no way aggravated with Ramseur Records in any way, the matter was handled very politely and I must say, it's one hell of a label- be sure to check out all their artists and stuff online at their website.

Sorry

At the current time, Kate and I have a whole lot on our plate as the semester closes. This having been the case for a while, we both have to bring our studies to the forefront of tasks. However, because I've put too much into this blog over the past year or so, I refuse to let it die off, and will be making an extra effort this weekend and onwards to post at least two or three albums a week.

I'm sorry about the downtime lately, but I appreciate the support and interest in the blog by our visitors.

My windows computer is having some serious issues with reading the file formatting on my hard drive, so most of the albums I've downloaded in the past few months are all unreachable at the time. I hope to have this fixed sometime soon, but in the meantime, I'll try to post albums I consider classics that I have on my macbook.

As Kate mentioned before, I am currently without internet, and am updating in the parking of the student center at UK. Again, there seems to be a serious winter storm heading this way, and I doubt I will have internet for a few more weeks. While I'm unable to post albums, I suggest you check out the blogs on our blogroll.

Also, a bit of magical news, today the lineup for Bonnaroo 09 has been released.

I will for sure be there, and hope you can make it as well.

Dark Was The Night

Just for your information, this compilation including many of my favorite artists has leaked. However, I could not morally be okay with posting the album on the blog due to where the money is going to for albums purchased.

I can tell you though, that these songs are amazing, and as soon as this is available for purchase, I will be buying a copy of it. You can listen to one track from the album a day at the Dark Was The Night myspace. Also, you can check over at YouAintNoPicasso, a fellow lexingtonian's blog, for who the artist is each day.

Upcoming:

Martin Denny's Quiet Village

You El Guincho fans might notice that at the beginning of this video you'll hear a bit of pedal steel guitar that you are familiar with. Among the many other groups this album has inspired is Quiet Village, who's album Silent Movie was one of my favorites of last year.

I think over the next bit I'll try uploading older albums that to this day remain relevant.

I uploaded one a while back, and I hope you all took the opportunity to download it. It's an album that has inspired tons of artists, one of which named two of their songs after songs on this specific album (Modest Mouse).

Santo & Johnny- Santo & Johnny

They are a group that you will instantly recognize when you hear them. Take this song- my favorite instrumental song ever, Sleepwalk, for example.

The New Year

We here at TYT hope y'all had a good start to the new year.

However, once the semester starts up again, it's more than likely going to hinder our ability to keep up a steady flow of album posts. With this in mind, at the time, I am able/willing to fulfill requests that comply with all of three rules so far.
These being:
1.) The album is not from a major label.
2.) The album is not from Kill Rock Stars.
3.) The album is not from Dead Oceans.

This being said, just comment or use the cbox for communication.

I intend to upload some interesting albums through the next week, while I'm doing nothing much more than listening to music.

As a bonus personal favor, if any of you out there know of any resources for learning jazz or braziliany/bossa nova guitar and/or good sites for learning about music notation on the internet, I would greatly appreciate learning them.

As some of you may know, I am personally a musician, and have released well over 20 albums at this point in my life (most on the internet and on CD-Rs) and have been doing so since age 13 or so. Lately, I've been listening to a lot of hip-hop, IDM and electronic music, which is where some of my music is heading. However, my first adventure into music was traveled with a guitar I received when I was eight years old. Ever since I've been trying to refine my skills as both a musician and a songwriter, however, I'm sort of stuck at where I am until I learn how to both read and write music.

Like I said, any good links appreciated, and if you're interested, take a listen to something I recorded a few minutes ago with my terrible quality computer microphone.

Listen here
